The Cathedral of Mata Utu

Mata Utu ( Wallisian Matāʻutu ) is a place in the district of Hahake , which belongs to Wallis and Futuna as part of the Kingdom of Uvea . The place is also the chief lieu of the district, the kingdom and the French overseas territory . In addition, the cathedral of Mata Utu is the bishopric of the diocese of Wallis and Futuna .

The island of Uvea belongs to the archipelago of the Wallis Islands , which together with the Horn Islands form Wallis and Futuna .

Mata-Utu is located on the bay of the same name on the east coast of the island. Wallis Hihifo International Airport is located around 5.6 kilometers to the north-west .

Population development

In 2013, Mata-Utu had 1,075 inhabitants according to the last census. This is 9% of the population of the territory, 13% of Valais and 30% of the Hahake district . The population is declining.
