Mateus Galiano da Costa (born June 19, 1984 in Luanda ) is an Angolan football player . The midfielder currently plays for the Portuguese club Boavista Portol , played his first international match against Mauritius on April 29, 2006 and took part in the 2006 World Cup for his home country .

Due to his alleged use without a valid contract, his club at the time Gil Vicente was sentenced to relegation to the second Portuguese league before the start of the 2006/07 season .

Mateus Galiano da Costa allegedly derived his stage name "Mateus" from the German national record player Lothar Matthäus .
