Mathias Wirth

Mathias Wirth (born August 17, 1984 in Cologne ) is a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian and philosopher . Since 2018 he has been assistant professor (with tenure track ) for systematic theology / ethics and head of the department of ethics and diaconal studies at the theological faculty of the University of Bern .

Life

After graduating from high school in 2004 at the Hansa-Gymnasium in Cologne , Wirth studied Catholic theology in Bonn and Rome and graduated with the first theological exam. From 2011 to 2012 he worked in high school as a teacher for philosophy and religious studies ( secondary level I and II) and as a liaison teacher.

Since 2012 he has been a research assistant at the Institute for the History and Ethics of Medicine at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf . In 2014 he received his doctorate from the Philosophical Faculty of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hanover with a fundamental ethical work on the (un) virtue of obedience . In the same year he received the Hannover Science Prize 2014. In 2015, the Fritz Thyssen Foundation approved a post-doctoral research project entitled Illness in the Horizon of the Question of Meaning. A contribution to medical anthropology and ethics . In 2016 he joined the Charité as a Fritz Thyssen Post-Doc Fellow with this project . In 2016 he was also a Visiting Research Associate at the Center for Humanities and Health at King's College London . From 2017 to 2018 Wirth worked as a Feodor Lynen Postdoc at the Yale Divinity School . In the 2018/2019 winter semester, he was appointed assistant professor at the University of Bern.

From 2014 to 2017 Wirth was vicar of the Hannoversche Landeskirche in Bremerhaven and graduated with his 2nd theological exam.
