Mathieu Montcourt (born March 4, 1985 in Paris , † July 6, 2009 in Boulogne-Billancourt ) was a French tennis player .

life and career

Montcourt took part in the French Open in 2006 , 2007 and 2009 and advanced to the second round there. Most recently he reached the semi-finals at the Challenger tournament in Rijeka at the end of June 2009. Montcourt, who has been playing as a professional since 2009, was ranked 119th in the ATP world rankings .

In 2008 he was fined $ 12,000 and banned for eight weeks for betting tennis between June and September 2005. The International Court of Justice (CAS ) later reduced the ban by two weeks because Montcourt had only bet $ 192 in 36 matches and had not bet on his own games.

On July 6, 2009, he was found dead by his girlfriend in Boulogne-Billancourt. After a preliminary autopsy, it was assumed that the cause of death was a heart attack , medication and drugs were not found. There was also no evidence that the athlete would have died violently.
