Mathilde Wildauer (born February 7, 1820 in Vienna ; † December 23, 1878 there ) was an Austrian actress and opera singer (soprano).

Life

Wildauer passed several talent tests at the Burgtheater on March 14, 1834 and was hired. In her role as a naive lover, salon lady and soubrette, she became the darling of the audience due to her delicious mood and her comic talent.

The Austrian dialect poet Alexander Baumann wrote for her the "Nanderl" in the promise behind the stove , which became her most famous role and which gave the poet his popularity. Since 1850 it has belonged not only to the castle theater but also to the court opera theater. In a short time she acquired a brilliant technique and achieved the most beautiful successes with her pleasant soprano, so that she finally renounced acting completely.

At the age of 45 she stepped down from the stage and retired and died at the age of 58 on December 23, 1878 in Vienna.

Her honorary grave is on the Hietzinger Friedhof (group 11, number 9) in Vienna. In 1930 the Wildauergasse in Vienna- Meidling was named after her.
