Matija Radivojevic

Matija Radivojević (after 1450 , † after 1490 ) was a vassal of the Ottoman Empire from 1465 to 1471, the king of Bosnia and one of the last representatives of the house of Kotromanić .

Life

Matija Radivojević was one of three sons of the Bosnian rival king Radivoj Ostojić . His father Stjepan Ostoja ruled in Bosnia from 1433 to 1435 . Radivojević's brothers were Tvrtko and Đurađ. In 1463 Sultan Mehmed II conquered the Kingdom of Bosnia . In Jajce Matija's father Radivoj, his brother Tvrtko and the last Bosnian king Stjepan Tomašević were executed in the same year .

At the end of 1465, Matija Radivojević was appointed King of Bosnia by Sultan Mehmed II . Previously, he was sent to Constantinople after the fall of the Kingdom of Bosnia . With this measure, the Ottoman ruler Mehmed II tried to satisfy the Bosnian nobility. However, Matija could not exercise power, he was a puppet in Turkish hands. He is mentioned in sources for the last time in 1471. In the following year, Matija Vojsalić from the Hrvatinić family was installed as Bosnian king by the Ottoman conquerors . However, the Croatian-Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus appointed the Slavonian magnate Nikola Iločki as the Bosnian king.
