Mats Bertil Åhlberg (born May 16, 1947 in Avesta ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player .

Career

Mats Åhlberg began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown with Avesta BK , for whose senior team he was active from 1963 to 1966 in Division 2 , which was then still second . The center then switched to Leksands IF from Division 1 . With Leksands he won the national championship title in 1969, 1973, 1974 and 1975 . In the 1975/76 season Leksands was one of the founding members of the first Swedish professional league Elitserien . He himself was top scorer and top scorer in the Elitserien main round in the 1976/77 season. Following the 1980/81 season , he ended his career at the age of 34.

International

For Sweden Åhlberg took part in the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo and 1980 in Lake Placid . At the 1980 Winter Games, he and his team won the bronze medal. In addition, he was in the squad of his country at the World Championships in 1973 , 1974 , 1975 , 1976 , 1977 and 1978 and in 1976 the Canada Cup . At the world championships in 1974, 1975 and 1976 he and his team won the bronze medal, at the world championships 1973 and 1977 the silver medal.
