Matsumoku Kōgyō

Matsumoku Kōgyō KK ( Japanese マ ツ モ ク 工業 株式会社 , Matsumoku Kōgyō kabushiki-gaisha , German "pine wood industry", English Matsumoku Industrial ) was a Japanese wood processing company in Matsumoto , Nagano Prefecture , which existed from 1951 to 1987. The guitars manufactured by Uncle Matt are known for their sometimes quite high quality level.

history

Matsumoku Kōgyō was founded in 1951 to build sewing machine housings for The Singer Company . The product portfolio soon included housings for televisions and radios as well as wooden cabinets for television manufacturers. Matsumoko became known through the production of classical guitars, steel-string acoustic guitars , violins and archtop guitars based on the models of Höfner , Framus and Gibson .

Matsumoku produced complete guitars or parts of electric guitars , jazz guitars and basses e.g. B. for Guyatone , Hoshino Gakki , Vantage, Electra, Westbury, Ibanez and their subsidiaries or Washburn Guitars . We also worked closely with Epiphone , Westone and Aria for decades.

After Singer, which held shares in Matsumoku, got into financial difficulties, Matsumoku Industrial was closed and dissolved in February 1987. Matsumoku also produced and cooperated with the instrument manufacturer Fujigen , which is also based in Matsumoto.
