The Matthes-Enderlein-Gymnasium is a high school in the mountain town of Zwönitz in the Saxon Ore Mountains District .

School operation

The Matthes-Enderlein-Gymnasium is a high school for the fifth to twelfth grade and is supported by the district of the Erzgebirgskreis. The school offers special working groups, all-day offers, career and study orientation, a school choir and a cooperation with the TU Chemnitz . In cooperation with Johanniter Unfallhilfe , a course for training to become a first aid worker or school paramedic is offered. There is also a cafeteria available to students. The school operation is supported by a development association.

In the 2019/20 school year, around 660 pupils attended the school and were taught by 52 teachers. A high school diploma after the twelfth grade is possible.

The high school has school partnerships in the Czech city ​​of Kopřivnice and in the Chinese city ​​of Jiaxing .

history

The Polytechnic Oberschule (POS) "Friedrich Engels" has existed at the school since 1975 .

The grammar school has existed since 1992. An extension with modern classrooms and art education rooms was built in 1994/95. In 1997 the school was named "Matthes-Enderlein-Gymnasium" after the scholar and mountain master Matthes Enderlein vom Burgstadl, who was born in Zwönitz in 1493 . 2002–2004 the school merged with the Drei-Tannen-Gymnasium Thalheim . The complex modernization of the main building took place in 2002/03 and in 2008 the natural sciences and IT departments were modernized. The school has been offering open all-day programs since 2008/09.

Projects and awards

  • 2007: Cooperation with the TU Chemnitz. The students of the grammar school can take part in courses of the Chemnitz University and use the laboratory facilities through the cooperation agreement. In addition, the university supports internship, project and laboratory work as well as the preparation of special learning achievements (BeLL), some of which are recognized in later studies.
  • 2010: 4th place at the History Award 2010, a history award from The History Channel , Focus School Online and PM History .
  • 2013: Winner at Jugend Forscht .
  • 2018: In a project, schoolchildren had radio contact with the ISS space station and talked to astronaut Alexander Gerst via ARISS
  • 2019: In a project on modern nutrition, the students tested maggots and worms.
