Matthew Diamond

Matthew Diamond (born November 26, 1951 in Manhattan , New York City ) is an American film and television director , film producer and choreographer .

Life

Matthew Diamond grew up in New York City and graduated from the City College of New York with a Bachelor of Arts . He then attended the High School of Performing Arts . His career began in 1970 as a dancer for Louis Falco's dance company. From 1975 to 1976 he worked for Jennifer Muller / The Works and in 1978 for the Batsheva Dance Company in Tel Aviv . He then switched to choreography, initially for the Bat-Dor Dance Company, then he and Maria Loffredo set up their own dance company "Diamond". During this time he also worked as a director for Children's Free Opera. He also worked as a choreographer for the Washington Ballet . His choreographies have been performed at Carnegie Hall , Jacob's Pillow Dance and the Brooklyn Academy of Music , among others . The future choreographer Tere O'Connor worked as a dancer for Diamond.

Diamond was nominated for a documentary Oscar to direct the film Dancemaker . With the same film he won the "Film & Video - The Arts" award of the San Francisco International Film Festival . He has also won an Emmy and several Daytime Emmys and DGA Awards .
