Matthew Grinlaubs (born June 9, 1971 in Christchurch , New Zealand ) is an Australian beach volleyball player and coach.

Career as a player

Grinlaubs played his first international tournaments in 1997 with Mark Frisby-Smith . The two Australians achieved their best result with 41st place at the Ostend Open. They also took part in the Grand Slam in Espinho . In 1999 Grinlaubs formed a new duo with Joshua Slack . At the Moscow Open, Grinlaubs / Slack achieved 25th place. They took part in the World Cup in Marseille , but they did not get past the 41st place. They started the World Tour 2000 with a 17th place in Mar del Plata . At the Macau Open they reached the top ten for the first time in ninth place. After the Grand Slam in Chicago they finished 17th again in Stavanger . Then they got Marseille, Espinho and Ostend further top ten results. As a representative of the host they qualified for the Olympic Games in Sydney . There they lost their first game against the Brazilians Emanuel / Loiola with 3:15. In the losing round they first defeated the Argentine duo Salema / Baracetti 15-2 before they were eliminated by the Austrians Berger / Stamm .

Career as a coach

After his career as a player, Grinlaubs first worked as a coach at the Queensland Academy of Sport. In 2007 the British Volleyball Federation signed him as national coach for the beach volleyball teams. In 2011 Grinlaubs ended this activity.
