Matthew Ryan "Matt" Joyce (born August 3, 1984 in Tampa , Florida ) is a professional American baseball player in Major League Baseball (MLB). He is currently under contract as an outfielder with the Miami Marlins .

Career

Joyce was selected in the 2005 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers in the 12th round. After several years with various minor league teams in the Tigers' farm system , Joyce made his MLB debut against the Boston Red Sox on May 5, 2008 . After the 2008 season, he moved to the Tampa Bay Rays, his hometown . He wore jersey number 20 for both teams .

Via Los Angeles Angels , Pittsburgh Pirates , Oakland Athletics and Miami Marlins , Joyce came to the Miami Marlins, where he signed a one-year contract for the 2020 season.
