Andongcho "Matthew" Mbuta (born December 21, 1985 in Yaoundé ) is a Cameroonian football player on the position of an attacking midfielder and striker . He currently plays for Crystal Palace Baltimore in the second division of North American football, the USSF D2 Pro League .

Career

Club career

Mbuta began his active career as a professional football player in 2004 in his native Cameroon with PWD de Bamenda in the Cameroon Première Division . There he scored twelve goals in 20 games played in his first season, making him the third-best player in the entire league. With the team he qualified for the CAF Cup , in which he scored five goals in four games and so the team shot to the quarter-finals.

In 2006 he moved to Brunei for the Brunei DPMM FC , which has its game operations in the Malaysia Super League . For the team from Brunei he mostly played as a center forward, but was also used as a midfielder or as a second striker. Because of his consistently good performance in Malaysia, he came to England for trial training . There he trained with the professional teams of the two Premier League clubs West Ham United and Arsenal London , but did not receive any of the high - value contracts. After only eight games and a record of three goals, he left the team to move to the United States at Crystal Palace Baltimore in the third-rate USL Second Division . In his first season with the club from Baltimore he was elected to the USL-2 All-League First Team with five hits and seven assists in 16 completed championship games . In the following season he was "only" elected to the USL-2 All-League Second Team with two goals and the same number of assists from 16 games . Due to his outstanding performance at the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup 2008 , in which he and the team defeated the New York Red Bulls 2-0 in the third round and had to admit defeat in the quarterfinals after the penalty shoot-out of the New England Revolution , he was able to interest some Major League Soccer clubs.

After a total of 33 games and seven goals as well as a trial training session with the New York Red Bulls, Mbuta was signed on September 15, 2008 by these. He made his debut in the MLS in the 26th round of the current season in a 5-4 loss to the Colorado Rapids . In this game he scored his first and so far only goal for the Red Bulls. The last few rounds of the 2008 season , Mbuta retired from the game due to an injury to his quadriceps . To date, the Cameroonian has made three league appearances and one goal. During the 2009 season he played on loan for the Richmond Kickers in the third-rate USL Second Division , where he came to an employment. He also played three games and scored two goals when he was on loan at Crystal Palace Baltimore that same season.

In the last game of the 2009 season, he scored his second goal for the Red Bulls. On February 12, he was released from the New Yorkers and has played for Crystal Palace Baltimore since March 2, 2010.

International

Mbuta already gained experience in Cameroon's U-23 selection , for which he played from 2007 to 2008. He made his first assignment for a Cameroonian youth team in 2000.
