Matthias Brauer (choir director)

Matthias Brauer (born April 18, 1950 in Dresden ) is a German choir director.

Life

Matthias Brauer was a member of the Dresdner Kreuzchor in his childhood . He studied organ and orchestral conducting (“conductor”) both in his native Dresden and in Weimar. He then worked as choir director of the Weimar National Theater and the Berlin State Opera .

Brauer was director of the choir of the Saxon State Opera Dresden ( Semperoper ) from 1995 to 2006 and worked there with Giuseppe Sinopoli , Bernard Haitink , Kurt Masur , Daniele Gatti , Myung-Whun Chung , Kent Nagano , Daniel Barenboim , Colin Davis , John Eliot Gardiner , Semjon Bytschkow , Neville Marriner , Roger Norrington , Georg Solti , Christian Thielemann and other artists together. He is regularly invited to conduct the radio choirs in Berlin, Munich and Leipzig.

Commissioned with some courses / seminars at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden , he took part in numerous international festivals, including the Salzburg Festival and the Hilversum Festival .

After frequent collaboration with the Chœur de Radio France (e.g. Requiem by Mozart, the Second and Eighth Symphonies by Mahler, the Mass solemnis, the Ninth Symphony and the Fidelio by Beethoven), Matthias Brauer was appointed music director of this choir in 2006 . He held this position until 2014.
