Matthias Günther (born October 11, 1976 in Bregenz ) is a former Austrian handball player .

The 1.90 meter tall and 90 kilogram heavy cyclist played for the A1 Bregenz club . Before that he was already under contract in Bregenz until 2002, from 2002 to 2004 at SV Post Schwerin and from 2004 to 2007 at TSV St. Otmar St. Gallen .

With St. Gallen he played in the EHF Challenge Cup (2005, 2006, 2007), and with Bregenz in the EHF Champions League (2002, 2008, 2009, 2010) and the EHF Cup (200).

For the Austrian national team , he scored 148 goals in 117 international matches.

He ended his career at the end of the 2011/2012 season.

His brothers Gregor Günther and Philipp Günther were also active handball players at A1 Bregenz.
