Matthias Goddek (born September 5, 1986 in Cologne , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a former German basketball player . The 1.96 m tall point guard / shooting guard played  70 games in the basketball Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen and the Düsseldorf Giants .

Life

Goddek already played in the youth teams in Leverkusen and was German champion in the “U20” age group in 2006 alongside Tim Ohlbrecht , Richard Poiger and Lucas Welling. 2006/07 Goddek made the leap into the professional squad of the Bayer Giants Leverkusen and was used in nine games in the top division of German basketball. He made his breakthrough in the following season when he became a permanent part of the rotation and was able to put up almost three points per game in 20 games. Subsequently, due to the withdrawal of Bayer AG as the main sponsor , the Giants had to join the Regionalliga West.

Matthias Goddek went to the Giants Düsseldorf , who had acquired the Bundesliga license for the Bayer Giants Leverkusen . In the 2008/09 round, the Cologne native struggled with injury problems and was still able to compete 14 times (1.4 pp) for the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia in the Bundesliga. In the first BBL season, the Düsseldorf team managed to stay up. As a double licensed player, Goddek was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB with the Bayer Giants . Statistically speaking, 2009/10 was the best season for Matthias Goddek in the Bundesliga. 2.9 points per game and 0.5 assists per encounter meant career best values, the same applies to his playing time, which was almost nine minutes per game for the first time (27 games). The Düsseldorf Giants had to relegate to the ProA this season , but were able to acquire a wildcard for the BBL.

Goddek moved from Düsseldorf to Leverkusen. Due to injury, he did not play a game for the basketball record champions in the ProB-Nord until the end of 2010. The contract was terminated in January 2011 by mutual agreement. In the 2011/12 round, Goddek signed a contract under his mentor and coach of the Bayer Giants Leverkusen, Achim Kuczmann . Matthias Goddek was nominated in the expanded squad of the German A2 national basketball team for the Universiade 2008 under national coach Frank Menz .

Goddek broke a record in the ProB on January 15, 2012 in the domestic Smidt-Arena against the Dukes of Wolfenbüttel when he put ten of the eleven three-point attempts in the basket. At the end of regular time, Matthias Goddek had 11.8 points per game, 1.2 assists and 2.8 rebounds per match on the statistics sheet.

In September 2015, he retired from basketball with a foot injury, after previously serving as team captain for the Rhinelander.
