Matthias Haufer (born June 12, 1980 in Asslar ) is a German basketball official .

Life

During his teaching degree at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen , which he finished in 2006, Haufer was a talent scout and player observer under head coach Stefan Koch on the staff of the Bundesliga club Gießen 46ers . He also relocated the central Hessian team's indoor storage facility. Considerations to be active in the field of player sighting in the soccer field, he rejected. From summer 2007 he was the sporting director of the second division club Cuxhaven BasCats  and guided players like Mark Dorris  and Roderick Trice to Lower Saxony, who then made it into the top German division. In autumn 2008, Haufer, who had an agent license issued jointly by the German Basketball Federation and the Basketball Bundesliga , and that of the FIBA world association , set up his own business with the player agency Profibasketball.de . After leaving Cuxhaven, he worked for various players' agents before he took up a position as sports director and press spokesman at BBC Coburg  (then in the 1st Regionalliga Südost ) in summer 2016 , which he held until April 2019.

In April 2019, Bundesliga club Medi Bayreuth  announced Haufer's commitment as sporting director from July 1 of the same year after he had previously supported coach Raoul Korner in terms of player screening since 2014 in addition to his other activities . The cooperation was terminated on November 7, 2019, because, according to a message from the association, Haufer “did not live up to the common claim to the function and role of the sporting director” and “in the interests of the organization” he had drawn his conclusions. At the time of the separation, the Bayreuth teams occupied the penultimate Bundesliga place.
