Matthias Koch is a German stage and costume designer .

Life

Koch completed his studies as a stage and costume designer at the Dresden University of Fine Arts in 2005, was an assistant at the Stuttgart State Theater from 2005 to 2008 and was in charge of the set of the Schauspiel Stuttgart in the 2008/2009 season . He has lived in Berlin since 2009 and works as a freelance stage and costume designer. He was responsible for furnishing productions at the Thalia Theater Hamburg , the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, the Theater Basel , Roten Fabrik in Zurich and the Theaterhaus Jena . He works with well-known directors - including Nina Gühlsdorff , Eike Hannemann , Ronny Jakubaschk , Hans-Werner Kroesinger , Alexander Nerlich , Dorothea Schroeder and Alexander Simon . In 2012 he furnished the new version of the Fledermaus by Johann Strauss - created by Anita Augustin for four actors and two DJs - which was staged by Jonas Knecht . The production was developed at Theater Chur and then shown at the factory theater of the Rote Fabrik in Zurich, in the Sophiensælen Berlin and at the Schlachthaus Theater in Bern.

Koch works regularly with the German director Antú Romero Nunes , including four highly acclaimed productions: 2012 Schiller's Die Räuber at the Berlin Maxim-Gorki-Theater , then also at the State Theater Stuttgart , in September 2013 Moby Dick after Herman Melville at the Hamburg Thalia Theater , im December 2015 the Joseph Roth project Hotel Europa or Der Antichrist at the Vienna Akademietheater and in March 2016 Heinrich August Marschner's Der Vampyr at the Komische Oper Berlin .
