Matthias Kopetzky

Matthias Kopetzky (born February 10, 1962 ) is an Austrian expert and economic forensic scientist who became known through his activities in various criminal proceedings in the media.

education

After completing his school career, Matthias Kopetzky studied business administration at the Vienna University of Economics and Business from 1984 to 1989 and completed a doctorate in economics from 1995 to 1997 at the University of Vienna .

Kopetzky is a sworn and court-certified expert for cost accounting, bookkeeping, company valuation and corporate management.

After working in business for the first time, Kopetzky started working as a consultant in a tax consultancy firm in 1995, where he gained his first experience of working in the field of economic experts.

In 1998, Kopetzky switched to self-employment and, together with a partner, set up an expert office for the economic sector, which the Austrian judiciary engaged in numerous large-scale proceedings. Kopetzky has also worked in numerous international consulting functions since 1998. Since 2003 he has been an advisor to a capital market consultancy and since 2014 has been involved in a company specializing in forensic activities.

In addition to his work as an expert, Kopetzky works as a management consultant and board member in the Bank für Gemeinwohl project.

As a part-time job, Kopetzky has agricultural activities in the city of Vienna and manages 80 bee colonies in urban areas with his city beekeeping.

Teaching activities

Kopetzky is a regular speaker in the field of white-collar crime. Since 1998 he has been teaching at various universities, for example at the Wiener Neustadt University of Applied Sciences and the Vienna University of Applied Sciences of the WIFI .

In addition, he contributes to various further training institutions such as B. Business Circle or the Academy for Internal Auditing and is involved in police training on white-collar crime.

Krida allegations against Mirko Kovats

The bankruptcy of the large discotheque A2 Südpol in Shopping City Süd in the 1990s led in 2007 to proceedings against the prominent entrepreneur Mirko Kovats around the question of the fraudulent Krida, in which Kopetzky was active as an appraiser. The proceedings were discontinued in 2009.

Imperial affair

Since 2001 Kopetzky has worked as an expert on allegations of infidelity to the imperial group of the entrepreneur Faramarz Ettehadieh , which led to media reports in 2007. Welldorado process

The Welldorado trial dealt with the suspected embezzlement of approx. 400,000 euros since 2006 by an employee of the Wels spa and bathing facility Welldorado . Kopetzky acted as an expert in the preliminary investigation and the subsequent court hearing. In the course of the investigation, Kopetzky's lack of support from the Wels authorities was criticized. Partial privatization of Österreichische Post AG

In the context of the Telekom affair , Kopetzky worked extensively as an expert in cooperation with his law firm partner Martin Geyer and examined financial flows for consulting services, lobbying activities and suspected party financing. In some cases, requests for partiality were made against the experts, but these were rejected by the court.

Novomatic affair

The attempt to soften the gaming monopoly in 2006 became known as the Novomatic affair surrounding Karl-Heinz Grasser , which would have resulted in advantages for the Novomatic machine group and Telekom Austria , which had already drawn up plans for a joint project. Walter Meischberger , Grasser's best man, had received 465,000 euros from Novomatic and passed it on to a company in which Grasser was involved. In his investigations, however, Kopetzky could not find any direct cash flow to Grasser. The preliminary investigation was closed in 2017.

Tetron affair

In 2015 Kopetzsky was under the commonly called blue-light radio affair known Tetron affair involved, in which the recoverability of these consulting services in the lobbying area by the accused Alfons Mensdorff-Pouilly examined. In the course of the proceedings, Kopetzky alleged bias, but the court did not confirm this. The trial ended in convictions.
