Gernot Rumpold (born September 11, 1957 in Villach ) is a former Austrian politician ( HC , formerly FPÖ ).

Life

Gernot Rumpold attended the higher federal teaching and research institute in Pinkafeld and was then from 1980 to 1982 technical employee in heating and ventilation construction; since 1994 he has been the managing director of the advertising agency FP-1998 Werbeberatungs GesmbH.

Rumpold began his political career in 1982 as an organizational officer (until 1984), from 1984 to 1986 he was regional manager of the FPÖ Carinthia, 1986 personal assistant to the federal party leader of the FPÖ, from 1989 to 1990 member of the Federal Council and finally from 1990 to 1996 federal manager of the FPÖ.

Jörg Haider is considered to be his political foster father , in whose Buberlpartie , which in addition to Rumpold also belonged Peter Westenthaler , Walter Meischberger and Karl-Heinz Grasser , he quickly made a career. As Haider's "man for the rough", Rumpold was repeatedly noticed for his rowdy behavior through to physical attacks and attempts at criminalization by political opponents.

Eurofighter affair

Gernot Rumpold was accused in parts of the Austrian press of having received excessive payments to his companies in the course of the procurement of interceptors for the Austrian armed forces. Contract awards were presented as opaque and politically influenced. Rumpold and his wife Erika contributed to this by refusing to testify before a parliamentary committee of inquiry on the subject of Eurofighter procurement, citing trade secrets. According to a report by News magazine, the Eurofighter has an advertising contract worth almost 6.6 million euros. The contract mediated by Erhard Steininger was awarded to the agency 100% Communications , which is owned by the former BZÖ election campaign manager Gernot Rumpold.

Only around a third of the 6.6 million euros could be compared with verifiable services by a parliamentary committee of inquiry in 2007, whereby the suspicion that bogus bills or excessive bills were issued for the remaining amounts was never dispelled. According to a report by the Austrian magazine profil, the agency charged EUR 96,000 for a press conference . Rumpold charged the FPÖ 30,000 euros (including VAT) for the "organization and implementation" of the FP party congress on March 23, 2005. According to industry information, the service rendered was worth 1,000 to 5,000 euros.

Criminal proceedings

On August 9, 2013, in the so-called Telekom Austria affair , Rumpold was sentenced to three years' unconditional imprisonment and payment of 600,000 euros to Telekom Austria for contributing to infidelity . On November 25, 2015, the Supreme Court (OGH) dismissed Rumpold's appeal and appeal, making his first-instance conviction final. In the same case, Rumpold was tried again in 2016 for false statements . Other people, including Rudolf Fischer , were also sentenced to non-final prison terms in these proceedings. According to a report by the Austrian newspaper Falter, the tax office originally rated the payment as a "hidden profit distribution" in the amount of 764,539 euros to the FPÖ, whereby he would have earned 2.5 million euros himself. In the Telekom III proceedings on August 23, 2016, Rumpold was sentenced to eleven months of unconditional imprisonment and 22 more months on probation.

insolvency

On July 30, 2014, the Vienna Commercial Court filed for bankruptcy under reference number 3 S 97 / 14f.
