Matthias Marschik
Matthias Marschik (* 1957 in Vienna ) is an Austrian cultural scientist , media scientist and sports historian .
biography
After graduating from the Jesuit high school Albertus-Magnus-Schule in 1975, Matthias Marschik studied law , psychology and art history at the University of Vienna until 1983 . After his community service at the psycho-biological research station of the General Hospital Psychiatric University Clinic , he joined the Association for Consumer Information in 1986 while continuing to study psychology. From 1987 on he worked as a freelancer for newspapers and magazines in Austria.
1990 doctorate Marschik about literature to therapy . The following year he co-founded the social science research institute IBRIS ( Institute for Biological Social Science ) and from 1991 to 1996 research assistant at the Vienna Institute for Writing Education and Writing Therapy (WISS). In 2003 he completed his habilitation as a private lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Linz ; his subject was contemporary history with a special focus on cultural studies . He has further visiting professorships and teaching positions at the universities of Vienna, Klagenfurt , Linz , Salzburg and Zurich for u. a. Psychology, media studies, artistic and industrial design as well as contemporary history. In his publications he deals with everyday history , especially in the history of sports.
Marschik's particular merit is that he introduced cultural studies into the history of sports .

- 1997: Promotion Prize of the City of Vienna for Science
- 2002: Fellow of the European Committee for Sports History
- 2007: Awarded the Herbert Steiner Prize
