Matthias Naß (born July 9, 1952 in Bad Bevensen ) is a German journalist . He has been the international correspondent for the weekly newspaper Zeit since 2011 .

Life

Naß studied history , sinology and political science in Göttingen, Honolulu and Hamburg. From the Henri Nannen School he came 1983 period . In 1984 Naß and four other graduates of the Henri Nannen School co-authored the journalist Wolf Schneider for the book Our Daily Disinformation - How the Mass Media Lead Us astray , in which the daily editorial routine of German newspapers including gatekeepers is presented become.

Naß began his career as an editor in the politics department. In 1990 he became deputy head of the political department, from 1994 to 1997 he was editor-in-chief and from 1998 to 2010 deputy editor-in-chief. From 1978 to 1982 Naß was managing director of the German Society for Asian Studies and publisher of the magazine Asia . He is Vice President of the German-Japanese Center Berlin.

Naß is married and has two children.

Memberships, participation in congresses

Naß is a member of the Transatlantic Academy . He also took part in Bilderberg conferences . According to Uwe Krüger , Naß was a member of the Bilderberg Inner Circle and helped determine topics and participants in the conference on the steering committee. He is said to have ended participation in 2012. He gives lectures at the Institute for Foreign Relations . He has been a guest at events organized by the Körber Foundation since 2011 . He is also a deputy member of the Board of Trustees of the Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt Foundation .

Networking and criticism

In Uwe Krüger's study of the influence of elites on leading media , Naß is counted among those journalists networked with the elite. The operator of the Nachdenkseiten Albrecht Müller therefore counts him among the authors of a "US-oriented alignment [sic] of important leading media". Telepolis author Paul Schreyer accuses ZEIT of lack of transparency, equating membership in exclusive clubs and associations with paid work for Russia Today .
