Matthias Stadler (born February 9, 1966 in St. Pölten ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and acting mayor of St. Pölten. From 2013 to 2017 Stadler was the managing state party chairman of the SPÖ Lower Austria.

Life

Matthias Stadler studied German Philology, History and Social Studies at the University of Vienna . He then worked for the Association of Lower Austrian Adult Education Centers in the municipality of Melk from 1991 until he moved to the magistrate of the state capital St. Pölten in 1992. There he was Deputy Head of the Municipal Department for Public Relations, International Contacts and Tourism. In the same year he became a member of the SPÖ and the following year a functionary of the Neuviehofen section .

In 1995 Stadler took over the management of the "Cooperation Network of European Medium-Sized Cities". In 1998 he became an authorized signatory of the "Society for the implementation of technical college courses in St. Pölten mbH", the holding company of the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences , of which he took over in 2002.

In June 2003 Stadler was elected to the local council of St. Pölten and at the same time became city councilor for school, cultural and youth affairs. In 2004 he replaced Willi Gruber as mayor of St. Pölten. He was re-elected in the 2006 , 2011 and 2016 municipal council elections.

After the state elections in Lower Austria in 2013 and the subsequent resignation of Josef Leitner , he was appointed regional executive chairman of the SPÖ in Lower Austria in March 2013. Franz Schnabl replaced him in this role in June 2017.
