Life

Matthias Storck attended the church college in Hermannswerder and graduated from high school there. At the age of 17 he began an apprenticeship as a bookseller in Leipzig before he began studying theology in Greifswald in autumn 1976 ; At that time he was still under the impression of the self-immolation of Pastor Oskar Brüsewitz in Zeitz and the expatriation of the songwriter Wolf Biermann . Even during his school days he stood up for his convictions in the SED state. Storck was betrayed by a friend, the pastor Frank Rudolph, who denounced as a Stasi IM with the code name "Klaus". As a student, he and his future wife were arrested in Greifswald in October 1978 for their involvement in military education in the GDR on charges of the planned " illegal border crossing ". After 14 months in prison in Cottbus , he was ransomed from prison by the federal government in December 1979 and released to the Federal Republic of Germany. Matthias Storck finished his theology studies in Münster and was pastor in Kirchlengern from 1988 to 2006 . Since 2006 he has been pastor at the Evangelical Lutheran Marien-Kirchengemeinde Stiftberg in Herford . In July 2019, he announced his resignation. After giving up his office on October 1, 2019, he will move to Bielefeld , from where he could take on representations in the Halle church district if his condition improves. He processed his experiences in two autobiographical books. Matthias Storck is married and has three grown children.
