Matthias Zachert (born November 8, 1967 in Bonn ) is a German businessman and business manager . He was CFO of Merck KGaA and has been CEO of Lanxess AG since April 1, 2014 .

Career

After graduating from high school at Amos-Comenius-Gymnasium in Bonn , Zachert trained as an industrial clerk at Daimler-Benz in Stuttgart . He then attended from 1990 to 1995 studying to graduate in business in Oestrich-Winkel.

In 1995 he was hired by the new Hoechst board member Jürgen Dormann in the central management department FRW (finance and accounting) to re-establish the acquired American pharmaceutical company Marion Merrell Dow (MMD) together with all Hoechst pharmaceutical units as Hoechst Marion Roussel AG (HMR) in 1997 outsource. In 1998 he was involved in the merger of Hoechst with Rhone-Poulenc to form the successor company Aventis Pharma , where in January 2000 he became Chief Financial Officer of the International Region. Zachert left Aventis just in time for the world's shortest-lived pharmaceutical company to collapse in 2003.

In the summer of 2002 Zachert went to Kamps AG in Düsseldorf , where he became CFO and improved the finances by selling the Harry's baked goods chain.

At the beginning of 2004 Bayer AG appointed him CFO of NewCo . NewCo was the project name for the outsourcing of large parts of the chemicals and plastics sector . From NewCo later became Lanxess AG . On June 1, 2004, Zachert became the company's CFO and Axel C. Heitmann became CEO of Lanxess in the same year.

In June 2011 Zachert went to Merck KGaA in Darmstadt , where he was responsible for finance as a member of the executive board. After the resignation of the Lanxess Management Board became apparent at the end of 2013, negotiations were started with Zachert at short notice.

On January 26, 2014, Zachert's return to Lanxess AG as CEO was announced. With the announcement of Zachert's move, the Merck share price fell by around 10%, while the price of the Lanxess share, which is also listed in the DAX , rose briefly by over 8%.

Private

Zachert is one of three children of Christel and Hans-Ludwig Zachert . He is married and has four kids. At the Leverkusen half marathon 2015 he ran the 21 km in 1:46:43 hours.
