The Matthieu River is a river in western Dominica in the Parish Saint Joseph .

geography

The Matthieu River rises on the southern slope of Mosquito Mountain near McFarlin , near the sources of the Rivière Bway (O), or the Macoucheri River , whose catchment area adjoins to the west. It runs south through Fond Lapluie and Bramhall Estate and flows into the Layou River from the north at D Leau Matthieu and on the right. It runs through thick layers of tuff , which are often affected by landslides. In 1988, 1995 and 1997 several large landslides occurred, as a result of which Lake Matthieu was formed in 1997 , which astonishingly lasted for over 13 years and only broke in 2011 with a large tidal wave.
