Christian Schulz (* 1961 in Oberkirchen , Meschede district) is a German photographer .

Life

Christian Schulz was born in Oberkirchen in the Meschede district in 1961.

Schulz began training as a painter and varnisher in 1976 . In 1980 his first photographic works were created. The following year he moved to West Berlin and worked as a freelancer for the daily newspaper and Zitty . Schulz photographed events, people and the city here.

The result were photographs of festivals, concerts, film, theater, portraits and politics, as well as everyday city life. You can see recordings from the concerts of Atonal, Ideal, Didaktische Einheit, Rio Reiser, Rolling Stones and the Berlin band Malaria. His recordings are contemporary documents of legendary places like the SO36 or the Tempodrom , of people of the city like Rosa von Praunheim, Rattenjenny, Juppi the chief impressario of the UFA factory , Annette Humpe of the group IDEAL, Dagmar Stenschke, Günther Thews and Holger Klotzbach from the Tornados, Marianne Enzensberger and Lotti Huber.

In 1990 Christian Schulz founded a photo agency. Since the end of the 1990s he has been working as a freelancer for the Berliner Zeitung and is a still photographer for directors such as Christian Petzold .

Christian Schulz's Berlinale portraits are remarkable. Penelope Cruz , Elia Kazan , Michelangelo Antonioni , Emmanuelle Béart , Claude Sautet , Dani Levy , Maria Schrader , Henri Alekan , Jane Russell , Jeanne Moreau , Hal Roach , Johnny Depp , Jane Birkin or Wim Wenders do not appear as unapproachable stars, but as People.

His work is featured in various publications, including: Taz , Zitty, tip , Stern , Der Spiegel , Die Zeit and the New York Times .
