Mattia Cigalini (born June 9, 1989 ) is an Italian jazz musician ( alto saxophone , soprano saxophone ) and composer.

Live and act

Cigalini performed on the saxophone at the age of twelve and completed a classical training at the Giuseppe Nicolini music school in Piacenza . He first worked with Guido Manusardi . In 2008 his debut album was released with his own trio 3 for E (Freedom Records). In 2009 he toured Japan. The following year he recorded his debut album Arriving Soon (on the Japanese label Pony Canyon and Dejavu Records); it was voted the best album of the year by the Swing Journal . In 2011 his album Res Nova ( EMI ) followed, which he presented at Umbria Jazz 2011. Beyond ( CAM Jazz ) followed in 2013 , which he presented at the Münster Jazz Festival . The album features jazz versions of pop hits from Lady Gaga , Katy Perry , Jennifer Lopez, and others.

He played with Tom Harrell , Uri Caine , Randy Brecker , Stefano Bollani , Andrea Pozza and Paolo Fresu , among others .

Cigalini teaches saxophone at the Accademia del Suono in Milan. In 2013 he became musical director of the Val Luretta Jazz festival in Agazzano in August .

In 2008 he received the Premio Nazionale Luciano Zorzella as the best young talent; he was also awarded the Premio Internazionale Massimo Urbani .
