The Mattstogg (also Mattstock ) is a mountain range in the canton of St. Gallen north of the Swiss climatic health resort Amden and the Walensee . It has a height of 1936.6 m above sea level. M. and together with the Speer forms a subgroup of the Appenzell Alps .
The Mattstock is a popular mountain for climbing , hiking and paragliding . A chairlift leads from the village of Amden (910 m) to the foot of the Mattstock at 1292 m. The precipitation chairlift station is the starting point for various hiking trails in summer.
Avalanche barriers are installed on its southeast flank to help protect Amden from avalanches .
Glider pilots from the nearby Schänis airfield appreciate the Mattstogg as a starting point for cross-country flights into the Alps .
