Matucana intertexta is a species of plant in the genus Matucana from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet intertexta means '(Latin intertextus) interwoven, interwoven'.

description

Matucana intertexta usually grows individually with spherical to broadly cylindrical, green shoots and reaches heights of up to 30 centimeters with diameters of 7 to 18 centimeters. There are 14 to 25 blunt, flattened, tuberous ribs . The white, straight or slightly curved, protruding to slightly spreading thorns become darker with age. There are initially up to 20 thorns 0.5 to 1 centimeter in length, which cannot be differentiated into central and radial spines. Later two to five central spines with a length of 2 to 4 centimeters and ten to 25 radial spines with a length of 0.7 to 2 centimeters are formed.

The crooked, light orange to vermilion and scarlet flowers are 7 to 10.5 centimeters long and 3.5 to 8 centimeters in diameter. Your bracts are bordered purple. The spherical, green fruits reach a diameter of 1 to 1.8 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Matucana intertexta is common in the Peruvian region of Cajamarca at altitudes of 1500 to 2300 meters.

It was first described in 1963 by Friedrich Ritter . Nomenclatory synonyms are Submatucana intertexta (F.Ritter) Backeb. (1963) and Borzicactus intertextus (F.Ritter) Donald (1971).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
