Maud Cunitz

Maud Cunitz (born April 3, 1911 in London , † July 22, 1987 in Baldham near Munich) was a German opera, operetta, lied and concert singer ( soprano ).

Life

Maud Cunitz and her parents of German descent moved from London to Nuremberg at the age of three. After completing her singing and dance training, the young soprano went to the Nuremberg Opera House . There she sang in the choir and took over small solo parts. In 1934 she made her debut as Agathe in Der Freischütz at the Gotha City Theater . This was followed by engagements at the music stages of Coburg, Lübeck and Stuttgart, where she also shone in many operettas. Despite her successful career, she continued to take singing lessons from Stoja von Millinkovic .

In 1943 Cunitz sang the First Lady in The Magic Flute and the Zdenka in Arabella at the Salzburg Festival . In 1945 she became a member of the ensemble at the Vienna State Opera . From 1950 she was part of the permanent ensemble of the Bavarian State Opera . At the theaters mentioned, she sang the major parts of her subject.

In 1953 she excelled as Countess in Capriccio at the London Opera. The singer gave further guest performances a. a. in Paris, Nice, Düsseldorf and Rome. Her brilliant roles included Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni and Octavian's in Der Rosenkavalier .

In addition to her stage presence, Cunitz was also active as a lieder and concert singer. In 1965 she ended her stage career, but continued to give private singing lessons for many years. The artist was married to the baritone KS Albrecht Peter (1914–2005).
