Maurice Ayers

Maurice Elmo Ayers (born August 28, 1913 in Kansas , † June 27, 1993 in Santa Cruz , California ) was an American film technician and special effects artist who was awarded an Oscar , Certificate II, at the 1949 Academy Awards .

biography

During his time at Paramount Pictures , inventing and building department, Ayers and his colleague Victor Caccialanza developed a plaster that made the construction of film sets easier.

At the Academy Awards in 1949 , both were honored with an Oscar in the “Science and Development” category for the development and application of Paralite, a new lightweight plaster for backdrop construction (“... for the development and application of“ Paralite ”, a new lightweight plaster process for set construction ").

In 1957 Ayers was involved in the Stanley Kramer- directed adventure drama Pride and Passion starring Cary Grant , Frank Sinatra and Sophia Loren , for which he provided the special effects. That was again the case in 1966 for the romantic action drama Der Blaue Max, starring George Peppard , James Mason and Ursula Andress . Three years later, Ayers demonstrated his skills in the field again for the comedic drama Westwärts der Wind with Lee Marvin , Clint Eastwood and Jean Seberg .

In 1981 he was involved in America's oldest traditional amusement park, Kennywood Park in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania , insofar as he was jointly responsible for a new ride, the "Gold Rusher".
