Maurice Barrette (born February 17, 1956 in Montreal , Québec , † September 30, 2018 in Québec City , Québec) was a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper .

Career

Barrette was active from 1973 to 1976 for the Remparts de Québec in the Canadian top junior league Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec , with whom he celebrated numerous successes. The Canadian won the LHJMQ championship, the Coupe du Président, with the team in 1974 and 1976 . Because of this, he took part with the team twice, in 1974 and 1976, unsuccessfully in the Memorial Cup . His convincing performance led Barrette to be elected to the league's First All-Star Team (East Division) in 1976 and to be awarded the Hap Emms Memorial Trophy as best goalkeeper in the 1976 Memorial Cup . In the same year, the goalkeeper was also considered in both the NHL Amateur Draft and the WHA Amateur Draft .

Barrette never played in the National Hockey League, however, and instead spent his last three career years in the American Hockey League . The right catcher crowned his time in the American Hockey League in 1978 when he won the Harry "Hap" Holmes Memorial Award for the goalkeeper with the lowest number of goals conceded , which he shared with his teammate Rob Holland . Barrette ended his career with the Springfield Indians .
