Maurice Bourgès-Maunoury (born August 19, 1914 in Luisant , Département Eure-et-Loir , † February 10, 1993 in Paris ) was a French politician of the liberal Radical Party .

biography

Maurice Bourgès-Maunoury studied at the École polytechnique .

He belonged to the Resistance , where he was close to Jacques Chaban-Delmas and Félix Gaillard . He was injured on September 2, 1944 and honored by Charles de Gaulle . In 1945 he became a representative of the Provisional Government in Bordeaux .

He joined the Radical Party, to whose right wing he belonged.

From 1946 to 1958 he represented the Haute-Garonne department in the National Assembly . During this time he was repeatedly minister and for a short time in 1957 Prime Minister. In 1973 his attempt to return as a member of the National Assembly failed.

Defense policy

Maurice Bourgès-Maunoury was a supporter of a military solution to the Algerian war and opposed the evacuation of Port Said during the Suez Crisis .

Cooperation with Israel
