Maurice Fishberg

Maurice Fishberg (born 1872 in Kamjanez-Podilskyj , Podolia Governorate , Russian Empire ; died 1934 in New York City , United States ) was a Jewish doctor and anthropologist who specialized in the anthropology of Jews .

Career

After schooling in his hometown, he emigrated from Russia to the USA in 1889 and received his doctorate in medicine from New York University in 1897 . He was a surgeon at Beth Israel Hospital Dispensary and medical examiner (Medical Examiner) of the Hebrew Charities of the United States (United States Hebrew Charities), New York City . Fishberg was a member of the New York Academy of Sciences , the American Ethnological Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science , the American Anthropological Association, and the like. a. He is the author of a monograph on pulmonary tuberculosis that has been published several times . He wrote many articles on medicine and anthropology for the Jewish Encyclopedia (1902–1909) and popular publications. In his anthropological works he concluded that modern Jews had heterogeneous anthropological elements. The medic Arthur M. Fishberg was his son.
