Mauricio Parra

Mauricio Parra (born July 20,  1972 in Zweibrücken ) is a Spanish basketball coach .

career

Parra was born to Spanish parents in Zweibrücken , Germany, and then grew up in South Africa ( Cape Town ) and Spain ( Bilbao ). In Vienna he was trained as a translator in Spanish, German and English. In Austria he worked as a trainer for the Viennese association Basket Flyers (co-trainer of the men's team and youth trainer), later as an assistant trainer for the first division club Wels , then from August 1996 he was co-trainer and junior trainer at UKJ St. Pölten . In 2001 he took over the position of head coach in St. Pölten.

From the 2003/04 season Parra worked as an assistant coach at SV 03 Tübingen in Germany and in this position contributed to promotion to the basketball league in spring 2004. He remained assistant coach in Tübingen until 2007 and then took on the position of head coach at the second division club BV Chemnitz 99 during the summer break of 2007 . Already in November 2007 they separated again after lacking sporting success. Parra later commented on his short term in office with the Saxons: “Chemnitz came too early for me. I approached this task too naively and paid the hardship. "

Parra returned to the office of assistant coach in Tübingen for a few months and then worked as an assistant coach at FC Bayern Munich from the 2008/09 season . In 2010 he moved from Munich to Alba Berlin , where he worked as an assistant coach for the Bundesliga team until 2015 and initially also as a coach in the youth field.

In 2015, after five years in the capital, Parra took up a position as assistant coach at Bundesliga club EWE Baskets Oldenburg  . After a three-year term in office, he left Oldenburg in the summer of 2018 and became head coach at VfL Kirchheim  in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA . At the beginning of December 2019, Parra was on sick leave for an indefinite period and was therefore no longer able to work as a trainer for the time being, so shortly before Christmas 2019 he was replaced by David Rösch as a trainer.
