Mauritius Choriol

Mauritius Choriol OSB (* 1959 in Erstein , Alsace as Alain Choriol ) is a Benedictine and abbot of the Benedictine Abbey of St. Mauritius (Tholey) , which belongs to the Beuron congregation .

Life

After an apprenticeship as a cook in Luxembourg, Alain Choriol worked in various restaurants.

In 1983 he joined the Congregation of Benedictines of the Abbey St. Mauritius Tholey in Saarland one. In 1990 he made his profession under Abbot Makarios Hebler . After studying theology at the Swiss University of Freiburg , Father Mauritius received the sacrament of ordination in 1993 in Tholey . Afterwards he held the office of cellarar in the monastery from 1998 , in 2007 he was appointed prior .

On September 8, 2008, the Tholey Abbey Monastery elected Mauritius Choriol as the Abbey's Prior Administrator for a three-year term. He thus succeeded Abbot Makarios Hebler , who had directed the monastery since 1985. On August 27, 2011, Choriol was confirmed as prior administrator for a further term until 2014.

On July 22, 2014, Father Mauritius Choriol was elected as the new Abbot of Tholey by the convent of his abbey, chaired by Abbot President Albert Schmidt. His abbot was given on September 21, 2014 by Bishop Stephan Ackermann of Trier in the Tholeyer Abbey Church in the presence of numerous ecclesiastical and state dignitaries, including the Archabbot of Beuron, Tutilo Burger, and the Prime Minister of Saarland, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer .
