Mavis Bank is a country town in southern Jamaica . The city is located in County Surrey in the Parish Saint Andrew . In 2013, Mavis Bank had a population of 1,765 people.

Mavis Bank is in the Blue Mountains. The village is at an altitude of 550 to 850 meters above sea level and is one of the highest settlements on the island. Mavis Bank is located at the source of the Yallahs River , which flows into the Atlantic at the city of the same name, Yallahs . After a short distance, the source river is additionally fed by a small stream . The closest town is the slightly higher Hagley Gap in the west. To the east is Gordon Town , behind which the outskirts of Kingston begin. The place is on average 350 meters above sea level. There are several farms and houses between Gordon Town and Mavis Bank.
History and economy
The city takes its name from the surrounding coffee plantations, which are named after a historic Scottish house. The estate has been managed by the Munn family for several generations. It is the most important employer in the region. In the plantations, the Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee is the main product.
Churches
A Seventh-day Adventist Church is located in Mavis Bank and is the largest community in town. Many members of the Bobo Ashanti , a Rastafarian religion, also live there .
