Max Allenspach

Max Allenspach (born January 1, 1898 in Goldach , canton St. Gallen , † August 8, 1983 in Zumikon , canton Zurich ) was a Swiss high school teacher , rector , writer , poet and cultural critic .

life and work

Max Allenspach grew up in Zurich, where he studied Italian, English and Spanish at the University of Zurich . In addition to his later professional activities as a Romance studies and boarding school director at the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz from 1923 and the subsequent high school teaching position at the Freudenberg Cantonal School, which he held between 1941 and then from 1959 as rector until 1963, he also worked as a writer , poet and cultural critic .

In 1947, Allenspach's first literary work, the prose volume entitled Hochwacht im Herbst, was published by Rascher Verlag in Zurich . In 1949 his songs were published by Tschudy in St. Gallen . Since 1950, the same publisher has published the volume Florentine Sonnets , in 1954 another prose volume with Wim and in 1956 the stories Die Reise der Fortuna . Various of his poems have also been published in magazines and anthologies, for example in the Edition Lyriker der deutschen Schweiz 1850–1950 published by Heinz Helmerking.

Max Allenspach spent his retirement in the canton of Zurich , where he died on August 8, 1983 at the age of 85.
