Max Ernst zu Solms-Rödelheim
Max Ernst Wilhelm Graf zu Solms-Rödelheim (born May 16, 1910 in Strasbourg , † June 6, 1993 in Göttingen ) was like his better-known uncle Max Graf zu Solms a German sociologist. He taught as a professor at the University of Labor, Politics and Economics in Wilhelmshaven and at the University of Göttingen .
Life
Max Ernst Graf zu Solms-Rödelheim was born in Strasbourg as the child of Ernst Graf zu Solms-Rödelheim-Assenheim (1868–1920) and Anna Countess von Platen-Hallermund (1874–1937). His father was a professor of sociology at the University of Strasbourg , who lost his post in 1919 after Alsace-Lorraine was ceded and worked in the employment office.
Solms-Rödelheim, who came from a noble family in Hesse , studied in Cologne, Frankfurt am Main (here in 1931 political involvement in the Red Student Group and acquaintance with Wolfgang Abendroth ) and at the University of Heidelberg . There he was in 1938 when Carl Brinkmann with a study on the consequences of the industrialization of the rural population doctorate and then employs to 1941 at the Institute of Social and Political Sciences. As a scholarship holder of the Reichsarbeitsgemeinschaft für Raumforschung (RAG), he worked on research assignments on North Baden agricultural and settlement problems in 1940/41, which was regarded as "war-important research" and led to several years' delay in drafting military service. In 1941 he was also a tax auditor for almost a year at the “General Plenipotentiary for Assets Anti-People and Reich Hostile” in Strasbourg. From 1946 to 1949, Solms-Rödelheim was again an assistant at the Heidelberg Institute and at the same time a lecturer at the Mannheim Business School . In 1949 he moved to the University of Work, Politics and Economics in Wilhelmshaven, where he was appointed Professor of Sociology after his habilitation in 1951. He was one of the promoters of the reform approach of studying social sciences as a mixed subject. From 1962, after the university was integrated into the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Göttingen, Solms-Rödelheim taught there until his retirement in 1975.
His main scientific interests were in the sociology of culture and religion , economic and social history and sociography .
