Max Günthör (born August 9, 1985 in Friedrichshafen ) is a former German national volleyball player .
Career
Max Günthör started his career in his hometown at VfB Friedrichshafen . After the junior coach Helmut Zirk discovered Urs Günthör's younger brother , “Mäxe” joined the “Young Stars” team in 2001 with coach Söhnke Hinz . In 2004 he made the leap into the first team. In the same year he took third place at the European Championships with the national junior team. In the next three years he won the double and in 2007 the Champions League with VfB, but was rarely used. Therefore, he moved to league rivals evivo Düren for the 2007/08 season . In 2007 he also made his debut in the senior national team , with which he finished fifth at the 2007 European Championship . From 2008 to 2012 Günthör played with Generali Haching and won the DVV Cup three times in a row with the club in 2009, 2010 and 2011 . In 2010 he achieved eighth place with the national team at the 2010 World Cup in Italy. At the Olympic Games in London 2012, Günthör reached fifth place with the German team. Then he returned to his hometown club VfB Friedrichshafen. In 2014 he achieved the next success in the DVV Cup with VfB. With the national team he won the bronze medal at the World Cup in Poland . After winning the double with Friedrichshafen again, Günthör ended his professional career in 2015 and played in the third division at VfB Friedrichshafen II.
