Max Jacoby , later Max-Moshe Jacoby (born June 8, 1919 in Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein ; died March 15, 2009 in Berlin ) was a German photographer .

Life

Grave site, Stubenrauchstrasse 43–45, in Berlin-Friedenau

Max Jacoby grew up in Koblenz, where his parents owned a department store. In the mid-1930s he moved to Berlin in order to evade the pressure of racist persecution at school. In 1937 Jacoby was able to emigrate to Buenos Aires . He worked first as a sales representative, then as an assistant to the photographer George Friedman. In 1941 he started his own business, working for magazines and advertising agencies in New York and South America. In 1951 he co-founded the group of photographers Group of Ten / La Carpeta de los Diez , which shaped modern South American photography. In 1957 he returned to Berlin. His future wife, the actress and director Hilla Jacoby (1922-2017) helped him to get closer to the Germans again. Another decisive factor for him, the now messianic Jew , was his turn to Jesus Christ .

Works by Max Jacoby have been shown in numerous international photo shows such as the 1966 World Photography Exhibition , “On the Way to Paradise” and “The Children of the World” (1968).

His grave is in the Schöneberg III cemetery in Berlin.
