Max Kiesling

Max Kiesling (born January 4, 1866 in Pohlitz near Greiz ; † October 24, 1930 in Leipzig ) was a German cellist and from 1892 to 1924 a member of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra .

At the age of fourteen, Max Kliesling, the son of a businessman, received three years of cello lessons from music director Friedrich Hundhammer in Reichenbach . He was then a member of Mr. Reichmann's chapel in Bad Salzbrunn . From 1882 to 1885 he attended the Leipzig Conservatory , where he was a student of Alwin Schröder and Julius Klengel . In March 1885 he passed his exam there.

After stints in the spa orchestras of Bad Reichenhall and Karlsbad , he did his military service in Altenburg . From 1890 he was a member of the Princely Altenburg Orchestra .

From May 16, 1892 he was a member of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig. On March 1, 1893, he was accepted into the orchestra pension fund .

From 1899 he was the first solo cellist of the Gewandhaus and Theater Orchestra, succeeding Georg Wille.

In 1908 he was the first solo cellist at the Bayreuth Festival . He also appeared at concerts.

He published orchestral studies for violoncello from Richard Wagner's stage and concert works for the Breitkopf & Härtel publishing house .

Max Kiesling was married to Minna, nee Naundorf (born September 27, 1875, † October 13, 1959). The marriage resulted in the sons Walter (1897–1972), Curt (1898–1970) and Fritz (1900–1963).
