Max Schmidt (born August 23, 1818 in Berlin , † January 8, 1901 in Königsberg ) was a German painter .

Life

Max Schmidt, born in Berlin on August 23, 1818, studied at the Berlin Academy with Wilhelm Schirmer , Carl Joseph Begas and Carl Krüger . In 1843 and 1844 he traveled to the Orient , from 1847 to 1853 to southern Germany , Italy, the Ionian Islands and Provence .

When he returned, Schmidt took part in the painting of the Egyptian Court and the Greek Hall in the Neues Museum in Berlin. From 1868 he taught at the art school in Weimar and was appointed from there to the academy in Königsberg in 1872 . From 1874 to 1880 and again from 1890 to 1901 he was deputy director of the Königsberg Art Academy .

Max Schmidt died on January 8, 1901 in Koenigsberg.
