Max Seliger

Max Seliger (born May 12, 1865 in Bublitz , West Pomerania ; † May 10, 1920 in Leipzig ) was a German painter , craftsman and director of the Royal Academy of Graphic Arts and Book Industry in Leipzig.

Life

Max Seliger attended the Royal Art School in Berlin and the teaching institution of the Museum of Applied Arts in Berlin and was a student of Emil Doepler and Max Friedrich Koch , among others . From 1894 he taught at the latter educational institution himself.

In 1901 he became director of the Royal Academy for Graphic Arts and Book Trade in Leipzig. He undertook a reorientation of this institution, placing the workshop of the artist in the foreground. In 1914 he founded the Leipzig exhibition for book trade and graphics .

Seliger mainly created monumental wall paintings, glass paintings and mosaics for numerous public buildings, including the Reichstag building and the Golgotha ​​Church in the Oranienburger Vorstadt in Berlin, as well as for the entrance hall of the Deutsche Bücherei Leipzig .

In literary terms, he appeared through articles on the book trade and contemporary art movements in numerous art and specialist magazines and through various monographs .

Max Seliger was a member of the German Association of Artists .
