Max Wieczorek
Max Wieczorek (born November 22, 1863 in Breslau , † September 25, 1955 in Pasadena ) was an American painter with German roots.
Life and works
Wieczorek was a son of Joseph Wieczorek and his wife Bertha, geb. Gardener. He studied with Ferdinand Keller at the Art Academy in Karlsruhe and with Max Thedy in Weimar and in Italy . In 1889 Ernst Eitner drew him in Gothmund , where they painted with other college friends. In 1893 he moved to the United States after completing his military service. He worked for Louis C. Tiffany in New York until 1908 and then moved to Los Angeles . In 1921 he was naturalized .
He concluded his first marriage with Ida Luer, the second on March 14, 1929 with Gertrud or Gertrude Besser. He had two daughters and a son.
Wieczorek, who painted portraits and landscapes, among other things, received several medals at exhibitions. Union Chaffey High School in Ontario has his portrait of George Chaffey, the Krotona Institute of Theosophy in Hollywood has a Christ head from his hand, the Engineer's Club in New York has the painting The Old Sycamore , the Los Angeles Athletic Club the picture Foothills . The portrait of the dancer Ruth St. Denis became the property of the Denishawn School of Dancing in New York . In Los Angeles, according to Thieme-Becker, Wieczorek's pictures are in the museum, City Hall and the library of Virgil Jr. High School. Wieczorek lived in Los Angeles for a long time; at times his household also included a butler and a cook. Wieczorek shot himself after his wife died in his home in Pasadena. He was buried in the Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier .
