politics

Member of the LSAP since 2007, Hemmen was a candidate in the 2009 chamber election, initially unsuccessful in the Zentrum constituency ; in the 2013 election she reached fourth place. Since her party was entitled to three seats and the previous Etienne Schneider accepted a ministerial office as deputy prime minister , she was able to take over his mandate in parliament as a successor . Among other things, she was chairwoman of the Committee on Health, Equal Opportunities and Sport. In the general election in 2018 , she joined in again, but fell behind Francine Closener back to fifth place. Since her party was also able to achieve one less mandate, she left the chamber at the end of the legislative period.

Hemmen has been the mayor of Weiler zum Turm since 2011 and thus Tilly Metz's successor . After she found herself exposed to “allegations and other political provocations” in the context of additional elections for the municipal council that had become necessary, she resigned from her office at the end of October 2018. The previous First Alderman , Vincent Reding ( CSV ) was elected as his successor .

As of early 2019, Hemmen is the chairwoman of the Zentrum party district .
