politics

After the chamber election in autumn 2013 , the new Prime Minister Xavier Bettel appointed her to his government as State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Defense and Internal Security . After it became known that Closener had used her company car for a private holiday at Christmas 2013, she received widespread public criticism. Although she had done this in accordance with the applicable regulations and thus legally, she justified it in an interview in a way that made her look downright arrogant.

In the chamber election in October 2018 , Closener ran in the constituency "Mitte", but failed to enter the Luxembourg parliament and had to give up her post in the government at the beginning of December 2018. She then worked at the State Department, where she was responsible for the nation branding of her home country. Since Marc Angel , instead of in the EU Commission be moved Nicolas Schmit to the European Parliament wanted to change, Closener took over his seat in the Chamber on 3 December of 2019.

Private

Closener lives in Mamer . She is married to journalist and cabaret artist Jay Schiltz and the couple have two sons.
