Max Karl Friedrich von Gemmingen (born May 7, 1868 in Stettenfels , † May 2, 1949 in Neckarsulm ) was a Württemberg officer , most recently a colonel in the First World War .

Life

He came from the 2nd sub-branch (Stuttgart) of the Fürfeld line of the barons of Gemmingen-Guttenberg and was a son of the Württemberg forest officer Ernst Franz Karl von Gemmingen (1816–1876) and Pauline von der Osten (1830–1915).

Gemmingen attended school in Kirchheim unter Teck and later in Stuttgart the Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium and the Realgymnasium. In 1881 he joined the Quarta of cadets house a Oranienstein, 1883 in the Upper Third of Hauptkadettenanstalt in Gross-Lichterfelde . After the Portepeef Ensign examination in 1886, he was accepted into the Selekta of the Cadet Corps. In 1886/87 he was the body page of Empress Augusta . In 1887 he joined the Grenadier Regiment "Queen Olga" (1st Württembergisches) No. 119 as a second lieutenant . From 1890 to 1893 he was adjutant of the 2nd battalion. In 1917 he was appointed lieutenant colonel commander of the grenadier regiment. From October 1918 until the end of the First World War, he headed the 51st Infantry Brigade within the 26th Division (1st Royal Württembergische) . He ended his military career as a colonel.

After the First World War he wrote the chronicle of the Grenadier Regiment from 1914 to 1918.

From 1898 he was married to Gertrud Capler von Oedheim called Bautz (1872–1962), a daughter of Heinrich Capler von Oedheim called Bautz . His brother Reinhard von Gemmingen (1859–1909) embarked on an almost identical military career and married Hildegard (1867–1905) to another Capler daughter.
