Maxime Hamou (born June 8, 1995 in Nîmes ) is a French tennis player .

Career

In his junior career, Hamou reached eighth place in the world rankings.

Hamou mainly plays on the ITF Future Tour and the ATP Challenger Tour . On the Future Tour he has won four singles titles and one doubles title. In 2015 he made his debut on the ATP World Tour at the Open de Nice Côte d'Azur in Nice with a wildcard . He lost in the first round to Pablo Carreño Busta 2-6, 2-6 . Shortly thereafter, he also received a wildcard in the main field of the individual competition at the French Open , where he met the Pole Jerzy Janowicz in the first round , to whom he was defeated in four sets after winning the first set in the tie-break .

Suspension at the French Open

After his first round defeat at the French Open , Hamou gave an interview to Eurosport employee Maly Thomas. He pulled the reporter against her will in front of the camera and tried to kiss her repeatedly. The appearance sparked public outrage. The organizer suspended Hamou and issued a ban on the Stade Roland Garros during the tournament. Thomas later stated that she would have "slapped Hamou in the face" if she hadn't been on the air live.
